Robert Florio works in pencil, watercolor, oils, 3-D studio Max,
animation, Painter Nine, digital painting digital computer graphics tablet
screen and equipped to use any medium. When Robert was 14 years
old he discovered a passion for creating art in a unusual way. Injury his
spinal cord at 14 years old, Robert's paralysis from the shoulders down
a C4 injury, has unleashed a Pandora of creativity that cannot be
stopped. Robert uses his arms but does not have enough dexterity in
his hands for creating art. Robert creates art with his mouth using a
specially adapted mouth stick. His mouth stick is a one of a kind
manufactured aluminum pole with an adjustable end twisting utensils
onto it tightly, with a clear soft molded material forming to Robert's
teeth. Robert has not found a second adapter exactly like the one he
uses, after being introduced to it at a therapy session for physical
therapy several years ago at turn Kernan Hospital.
Robert has a Bachelors degree now in game art and design, 27 years
old versatile in many subjects of art. Robert's degree is from the Art
Institute of Pittsburgh online division. Robert graduated in December
2007. Awarded the first ever Dean's Merit Award from the Art Institute
of Pittsburgh. The award was modeled after Robert's accomplishments.
Robert was the guest honorary speaker at his graduation class.
Robert is a finalist of the Top-Secret game design project directed by
David Perry. 60,000 volunteers signed up starting in 2007 and 22
people were awarded finalists in 2008 including Robert.

Robert's style comes from expressing the human condition from the
artists point of view living with a spinal cord injury and everyday tasks
that most people take for granted. Passion flows through Robert's
paintings of portraits, of athletes, dogs, animals and people. The
creative illustrations including human illustrations like sketches,
illustrations of people come from observing the best of humanity and
the worst of humanity.
Robert's story shared through the news media has awarded Robert an
Associated Press Award in 2005 and a cover story nominated for an
Emmy. A huge driving factor behind Robert's creativity comes from
pursuing a degree in game art and design. Robert's motivation is to
someday help develop videogames to help physically challenged
gamers, including all impaired gamers in the game world coming
together through escapism and discoveries.
Robert hopes to inspire those who do not have or might have lost
something special in their lives with his art and pashion. Robert is
